The biggest complaint I’m seeing about Benedict being cast in this movie is that the character he plays was a man of color in the Original Series.
People are complaining that J.J Abrams isn’t being true to to the character. They complain about authenticity and not keeping the character as close to the original that it can be.

Plot twist: The next companion is a normal girl/boy who only dies once in their lifetime and has no remarkable back story but he thinks they’re wonderful because they are human and the Doctor needs reminding that you don’t need to be a mystery to be remarkable.
